In Kerala, temporary dams stretching across the mouth of channels is called Korambu or chira. It is generally made of brushwood, mud and grass. The dam is constructed by horizontally fixing a strong wooden beam touching either banks of the canal. A number of vertical wooden beams of appropriate height are erected while their lower ends rest firmly on the ground and the other end tied to the horizontal beam. To this frame closely knitted or matted coconut thatch is tied. On this matted frame a coat of mud is applied. To prevent the dissolution of the applied mud a layer of grass is also applied carefully. The dam is constructed to raise the water level in the canal and divert the water into field channels. The dam is built in such a way that the excess water flows over it and only the required amount of water flows into the diversion channels. The height of the Korambu is adjusted such that the fields lying on the upstream are not submerged. Until all the fields are irrigated, water is allowed to flow from one field to another. They are built before the onset of the monsoon season, twice a year, in order to supply water during winter and summer season.

Hello everyone, I was extremely excited when Ubisoft announced their new game JustDance2 for the Wii console and made the decision to buy it at launch! So I did, had a great time dancing away with friends, and laughing at the rediculous moves until our sides hurt. A good time. THEN I decided I needed new music and went out and bought myself a Wii Point card and downloaded a handful of good songs, and they turned out to be just as good as the rest. But shortly after, my Wii decides it can't read the discs anymore and I'm down one system. R.I.P. So I remember there being a SD card compatibility and grab myself a knew Wii and a Nintendo Certified SD card. And with that I head off eager to play JustDance2 again and relive those good times. But as soon as I have all the songs loaded onto the card, I find out that they CANNOT be read on another system. In my oppinion, massive flaw. So Is that it, $20 bucks spent and wasted due to a failed copyright exercise? No online account able to record current purchases? I find this hard to swallow, But if thats how Nintendo/Ubisoft decided to leave it, then major points with me have been lost. Its not that hard to make a simple data storage. If anyone knows of a solution, please let me know. Because the last thing I want to do is give Nintendo the satisfaction of taking hold of another $20.. Game-On Gamers

I could display other volumes in PCManFM 0.9.x!

Hi, I upgraded my system using the Test and Unstable repos together with the normal ones, so I got a brand new PCManFM 0.9.9. There was a common problem reported in many other distros (with Unity not being the exception) that newer 0.9.x versions of PCManFM didn't display other volumes on the side panel, independently if they were mounted or not. A solution I found in Arch Linux forums says you should be sure that dbus is running from the start, and then in a terminal just execute:

"dbus-launch pcmanfm"

Presto! I got to see my old PCLOS2007 ext2 partitions and my old WinXP NTFS partitions (with write access too). The only annoyance is that partitions without volume labels get assigned a long alphanumeric dessignation to be included in the /media folder, something like:
/media/A4564F4G654H654-456DF4F64G654
That name was totally random, but you'll see something similar if you did not assign previously a label to the partition. I would prefer that names like "sdax" are given, but I didn't find a way yet.
Oh! Every first time you wanna mount a disk volume (not a usb stick) you're asked your root password, because gvfs seems to call the "mount" command, I cheked this by displaying mounted partitions with the same command in a a terminal.
The root mountpoint "/" is not displayed as a single partition. Thunar does display it however.

Some notes on my LXDE+OBox installation:
I DON'T use PCmanFM to manage my desktop, I use Feh for the wallpaper and no icons.
You must have gvfs installed, Udisks alone won't work for displaying other volumes in PCManFM.
USB sticks mount and unmount flawlessly wether PCManFM is started with or without the "dbus-launch" thing.
I use Unity 32bit.
I uninstalled HAL completely (note here lxtask package still recquires it as a dependency).
I also have Konqueror installed and it behaves very similarly.
My fstab file only includes my Unity partitions and the Swap one. I have to test this better, because previously if I'd modify fstab to include any other partition, it will incurr into problems with HAL and (I think) polkit stuff (which I still don't understand very well).
